An Online Source of Community for Single Mom Families & Friends
Welcome to One Mom Magazine!
We created One Mom as a hub of information, inspiration, community and discounts for people who identify as single mothers. So much good can happen when we work together.
For starters, single moms can join our network and receive the the One Mom card (OMCard) to get discounts on all sorts of goods and services for themselves and their children. OMCard Business Partners understand that we single moms could use a boost and they offer us the same discounts they give to students, seniors, veterans, and teachers.

Who IS a "Single Mom?"
The term doesn't always capture the diversity of experience

I love the episode of “We Can Do Hard Things” where Martha Beck talks about tangible strategies to calm yourself down during challenging times:

Here’s a great interview of Jelly Roll by Willie Geist of MSNBC; the story is so inspiring that it made me fall in love with his music.

Laney's Introduction to Jessica's Gift:

Within the sometimes stressful world of single parenting, our children can provide surprising comfort, just by being themselves. As we watch them develop and grow, it fills us up in ways that nothing else can.

JESSICA'S GIFT
By Laney Williams

like blossoms placed on my worried heart
the small hands comfort me
my spirits ease, how could they not?
her touch is feathery

those hands are strong for one so young
firm yet still so small
and as she grows the hands grow skilled
from art and work and all

she gathers and she nurtures
learns much from nature’s ways
communes with crows and plants and soil
and sailing fills her days

now that she’s grown my worries ease
such joy to see her bloom
and my dear daughter’s blossoms
still grant me their perfume

A Few of My Favorite Joyful Things to Start the New Year
Picture
By Debbie Fay (Reprinted from 2024)
As has become tradition, I offer you a few of my favorite things: stories, songs and other joyful stuff to begin the new year.
First, from NPR's Story Corp, a story of a young man with a heart that's 'GINORMOUS' as Elf would say. Amazingly, many years ago one of my newsletter recipients wrote me to say that he knew this young hero, and the story surprised my reader not a all.
Second, from NPR's "This I believe", a story of love that brings me great joy.
Next, Leonard Cohen's HALLELUJAH, sung by 1,500 people in an abandoned generating station in Toronto. This performance is stunningly beautiful and reminds me of the power of human beings joined together in song.
What the World Needs Now, sung by the Broadway community, moves me to tears every time. Despite the world's conflicts, LOVE MUST PREVAIL.
A Million Dreams, sung by PINK and her daughter, Willow, is a glorious anthem. A million dreams is all it's gonna take.
One more from "The Greatest Showman", here's From Now On sung by Welsh of the West End, a singing group who up to this point had only sung together on Zoom, performing in person for the first time on Britain's Got Talent. Their effect on the audience is heart-bursting.
Finally, last year I found this fantastic cover of Everyday People. Everyone from Keb' Mo' to Yoyo Ma - and lots and lots of children - contributes to this rendition.
Here's to a joy-filled 2025 for ALL of us everyday people.
