Designer Collection Release: RT x Nike
By Ervin Simmons (4/9/14) As of late, the fashion industry (and the high end designers it’s composed of) has had a noticeable fascination with streetwear. From designer sweatpants, to hi-top sneakers; designers have finally learned how to merge both luxury and comfort. Earlier in the year, it was announced that Riccardo Tisci, the Creative Director of Givenchy’s womenswear and haute couture divisions, would be collaborating with Nike to release a collection of sneakers. The collection would be titled the Riccardo Tisci x Nike Air Force 1 collection, a.k.a. RT x Nike. The collection flawlessly merges high fashion and streetwear with premium leather and eye-catching hues of orange, blue, yellow, grey, black, and white. The collection also features variety; consumers can expect to see four different styles: a low rise sneaker, mid rise sneaker, hi top sneaker and knee high sneaker boot. The items within the collection are elusive, and can only be found on ebay.com and a few boutiques across the United States. However, the collection will be available to the public at Nike retailers and Nike.com starting on April 11th. The items in the collection will retail for a range of prices, starting at $240 and capping at $340. Although the collection has yet to be officially released to the public, the sneakers are being worn by a handful of celebrities eager to partake in the formulation of a new trend in streetwear. Some of the aforementioned include Erykah Badu, the celebrity stylist Shun Melson, Anna Della Russo, and, of course, Riccardo Tisci himself. Despite the fact that the shoes within the collection are expensive, they are definitely worth the investment, as these unique shoes will quickly become an attention-grabbing wardrobe staple. Not only are they stylish and eccentric, but they are also versatile, and can be seamlessly worn during any season. The sneakers within the collection also compliment a variety of looks, as they merge the two very different worlds of streetwear and high fashion. Be sure to browse the internet so that you can get your hands on a pair of the sneakers before they sell out. |
Men in Heels?
By Paris McGee Jr. (4/9/14) For a long time, many women have lived by the phrase “Keep your standards high and your heels higher”. High heeled shoes have always complemented women and their fashion. For instance, Marilyn Monroe once famously said, “I don’t know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot.” And Kate Moss, a well known high fashion model, stated, “If I’m going dancing, then I wear the highest heels, with the shortest dress”. Therefore, we can infer that heels enhance both the confidence and femininity of the women who wear them. But what if men decided to strut down the street in heels? And yes, I mean six inch hot stilettos. Coy Barton and Mark Cramer are two men who decided to chuck the boring, traditional footwear allotted to men in exchange for a pair of black pumps. Indeed, this is not the first time men have worn heels. In the 1970’s, numerous men wore platforms shoes with chunky heel attached. The difference between the fashion of the seventies and modern day heels is the femininity attributed to the slender and extended shape of the heels. So, is this a beginning of a new era for men's fashion? In 10 years, will all men have a pair of heels in their closet? I hope not, because my feet can’t bear such burdens. |
