What are The Gays™ up to?
The only thing on our agenda is you.

School News:
Coop has a gender neutral bathroom! It’s located on the first floor (sadly), in the hallway beside the guidance office. To gain access to this bathroom, you can ask Ms. Heather in guidance for the key. It is a one-person stall. She’ll be expecting students to come for it, so don’t be nervous about asking.
Though it may not matter much to some, this bathroom is very important for the trans-identifying individuals in the school. Do not ruin this for them. Do not use this bathroom to skip class or for any other reason than what it’s for. In fact if you’re cisgender, you can forget it exists. It will not affect you at all.
The Rainbow Library, driven by GLSEN (formerly the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) has provided our library with new LGBTQ-related content. You can find ten new titles, including “Lets Talk About Love,” “Beyond Magenta,” “Tomboy,” and “Like Water.” You can see the full list both inside the library and outside on the GSA bulletin board. Other books with LGBTQ-related content can be found throughout the library with rainbow or pride stickers on their spines. If you’d like to check out some of these books, act fast! Some have already gone on reserve for other students.
In the Community:
The Wilson Branch Library is holding a Rainbow Reader Summit! On Saturday, December 7th, authors featured in the Rainbow Library will be attending to meet their readers. Free prizes can be obtained, and the summit will also be providing LGBTQ-related resources for those who need them. This event is open to all, including staff members. The session for grades K-5 will be from 10:30 am-12:30 pm, and the 6th-12th grade session will be from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm. For more information, you can visit their website at RainbowLibrary.org.
Stetson Branch Library and the New Haven Pride Center are hosting a QPOC Safe Space. These events are open to all people ages 13-18 who identify as Black, Latinx, South Asian, Asian, and others who ALSO identify as LGBTQ. The program will be for discussing and exploring concerns in our communities and environments, as well as building connections. Refreshments will be served. Meetings will be held every fourth Saturday in each month. All meetings will be held at Stetson Branch Library. You can find more information at newhavenpridecenter.org.
Resources:
Are you closeted? Only out at home or school? Are there people you have yet to come out to because you simply don’t know how? For most people, it isn’t easy. They’re afraid of being rejected, bullied, or worse. For this reason, The Trevor Project has come out with a free ebook, Coming Out: A Handbook for LGBT Young People. The book is 21 pages long and dives deep into everything you need to know about gender and sexuality, and gives detailed instructions on how, when, and where you should come out. The book gives information on healthy relationships, physical and mental self care, and provides resources for the use of LGBTQ+ youth, adults, and parents. You can go to thetrevorproject.org for free access to this book and so many more opportunities.
You can find more information on other news events on the GSA bulletin board by the library.
