Hispanic Heritage Month (and Beyond)
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira
Emmanuella Mwilelo (9/20)
I am originally from Burundi. I was born and raised there. When I was younger I loved singing, dancing and acting. I still love doing these things. I remember when Jennifer Lopez came out with the song called “On the floor” featuring Pitbull. This song was a big thing in Burundi; everyone loved that song including myself. When my family had a party, we played that song and I would get up and start dancing and singing along to words I don't even know the meaning to or how to pronounce them correctly. I didn't know English at the time. The song right now has about 1.6 billion views.
When the waka waka song came out by Shakira, you would hear people on the street singing “Tsamina mina eh eh waka waka eh eh Tsamina mina zangalewa" this time for Africa. People in Africa love watching and playing soccer and the 2010 FIFA World Cup was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. So when this song came out it was a good representation for that.
When I heard that Shakira and J-Lo were going to perform at the Pepsi Super Bowl on Feb 2nd, 2020 I was shocked and excited at the same time. It was very inspiring to see two strong beautiful Hispanic women come together and perform.
