Mr. Boroski Reads Dariana Pallasco's Piece at the Capitol to Advocate for Gun Reform

By Mr. Boroski
I went to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. last weekend to attend meetings with Representatives and Senators to discuss the issue of gun violence in schools and our communities. I attended the March for Our Lives rally on Saturday as well.
With Dariana Pallasco's permission, I read her piece "Through Her Eyes" Sending Our Condolences to Uvalde. as my opening statement about gun reform to elected officials. After reading Dariana's piece there was not a dry eye in the room. After the lobbying meetings and march on Friday and Saturday, today, Sunday, June 12th, 20 Senators announced an agreement on gun reform laws. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gun-reform-deal-senators-announcement/ Even after the tragedy at Sandy Hook, there has been no federal legislation on gun reform in America, until now. It may not be everything we sought in the meetings but it the first step that our country needed. Senators likely to announce agreement on gun reforms Sunday.
Dariana's art is proof that what we do at Coop matters. Art can move people and create change in our country/world. Please congratulate Dariana for the role her creative writing piece played in this historic legislation. Click here for more photos of Mr. Boroski at the Capitol.

ESSAY & OPINION
Letter to America
By Janaya Winstead

Dear America,
I wish you would stop judging me based on my looks, my gender, and race. I wish you would stop debating, preventing, questioning, and degrading me from doing a lot of things because I am a woman and not only a woman, a Black woman, a woman of color. READ MORE...
The American Dream
Nolan Wazni
The American Dream is something that everyone strives for: Being successful on your own terms and living a happy and comfortable life, however that may manifest itself for you. However, the way that America’s systems and social programs are built causes this dream to be just that for many: a dream.

Being cradled in depression’s fist from a young age caused my spirit to grow into the gaps between its unyielding fingers. The shape that I take as I enter my adult life is a product of the ways that it stifled my evolution. We fit together like the weed in the concrete crack, inseparable. Synonymous.

The American dream for me is to just have an equal and balanced life. My American dream is to always chase my goals. I want to always have a goal so I can always have something to strive for and I'll always be leveling up. I believe all my goals will help me be a better me and that is my American Dream, to be the best me I can be. READ MORE...

Disney Artist and Alum Dana Terrace Speaks with Visual Artists
Picture
Interview by Alexis Mendyk
Dana Terrace spoke with Visual Artists on Thursday, April 28 about how she started drawing and animating in school every day. Her first job was animating at JibJab. She dealt with many rejections until the team at the show Gravity Falls had her help out. Then she started working with Ducktales, Tangled, and now has created her own show, The Owl House. Dana led the artists in an activity where they were able to make their own story plot and adventures, along with their own characters. The group even learned from her how to do episode brainstorming.
